Customize the Paper Doll Way

May 4, 2008

Previously, I talked about being able to customize the artwork I will be making available. As far as how customizable they are, there will be multiple layers for you to fiddle with from the hair, skin, eyes, accessories, and the clothing layers. I am planning on including png, gif, and the psd file(s). For a sample of my work, I already created a paperdoll for visual novel game makers available at my site Ren’ai Games.

The files from my Alice Doll are very big but the ones I will be making will be much smaller and won’t feature a full body doll just yet. All my art assets will be configured to be used in ALICE (Assembler of Loose Individual Character Elements) program which is free and can be used on any platform be it Windows, Mac or Linux. With it, you can set the layer order of the dolls, easily change the color of each layer and it even categorizes the sets for you.

Above shows the different arm poses you can select. Just click on the one you want and it will show up on the preview on the right. Click on it again to deselect it. ALICE also allows you to save the finished doll as a png file or if you prefer, save your changes for another time for you to work on.

Regarding the paper doll style, they will initially be in the anime drawing style since that is what I specialize in but I am open to making realistic characters or other cartoonish styles if there is a demand for them. That also includes full body paper dolls. If you want them, I’ll make them.
